Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years of solid software development experience with Java.

Job Description:

We're looking for a Hardware and Facilities Technician to help ensure the smooth functioning of Hostway's Vancouver data center. Reporting to the Network Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ordering and processing inventory and assisting in the deployment of new server racks, workgroup Ethernet switches and various brand name and custom server and network devices. The technician will help monitor, report and maintain critical data center infrastructure, such as power panels, air conditioning units and UPS devices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Primary resource for ordering and inventory processes: ensuring server and parts stock levels are maintained, processing new deliveries into the inventory system and arranging special orders as necessary.
  • Assisting support teams with x86 platform server construction and maintenance.
  • Workgroup switch provisioning (into data center racks).
  • Server rack provisioning – power, networking and server rails.
  • Data center processes and periodic tasks such as temperature reports, UPS load reports and power readings.

Qualification, Skills and Experience:

  • Solid x86 platform hardware building and troubleshooting experience — workstations or servers.
  • An engineering mind – you are an intelligent individual who loves to understand how things work. You live and breathe this ‘IT stuff’ and like nothing better than to squash a technical issue or bug that is causing problems.
  • Organized, meticulous and diligent. Able to interact with suppliers and vendors professionally.
  • Any knowledge of or experience with air conditioning systems is a plus.
